Cocoa Island is located in the less developed South Male Atoll, a 40-minute speedboat ride from the international airport.
On the west side lies the Kandooma Channel, considered to be one of the best dive sites in the Maldives; on the other side is a quiet reef for snorkelling flanked by a curl of rockless beach which tapers into a spit of sand. There is an on-site dive centre staffed by PADI certified instructors catering for every level of experience. You can rent equipment, enrol on a PADI sanctioned diving course, visit the house reef or take part in night dives. The boat dives visit more than 20 different dive sites in the area and the safari dives explore further afield. Cocoa Island also has a gym with yoga facilities and a COMO Shambhala Retreat offering a full range of treatments including massages, facials, massages, hydrotherapy pool, steam rooms and meditation centre.
Rooms are inspired by dhoni boats, as used by local fishermen, adjoined by simple wooden walkways built above the shallow ocean. From your room, walk out on to a private terrace; from your terrace, slip into a warm Maldivian sea. Each of the one and two bedroom villas, loft villas, Dhoni Loft Suites and Dhoni Suites have wonderful amenities - handmade Italian linen, private sundecks, air conditioning and ceiling fans, minibar, tea and coffee making facilities, 42" LCD TV, complimentary WiFi and private safe. With spectacular views out to sea the accommodation is laid out to maximise privacy.
At Cocoa Island fresh food is very much order of the day with locally caught lobster and other seafood. The daily menus are a blend of Indian and Sri Lankan traditions with an emphasis on tandoor and organic locally sourced produce. There is also a comprehensive room service menu and a healthy COMO Shambhala option. The Faru hotel bar is open from 10am until midnight serving wines, exotic cocktails and energising juices.
