Velavaru means turtle island, unsurprisingly named after the turtles that once nested on the islands expansive white sand beaches.
Accommodation at Angsana is in 84 unique semi circular rooms, dotted behind the beach, most with excellent sea views. The public buildings are also full of character and constructed of timber and thatch, with sand floors.
The main restaurant at Velavaru, which serves excellent buffet meals, is complemented by the superb pier head a la carte restaurant.
